Will paint scoring or second chances decide Sparks-Liberty?

The Sparks visit the Liberty on Thursday, August 13 at 8 p.m. ET after splitting two close meetings. Los Angeles won 98-97 in June with a 60-42 paint edge and only nine turnovers to New York's 17. The Liberty answered 113-109 in July, overcoming 18 turnovers by winning second-chance points 18-5. In the third game, does LA's cleaner ball security and interior scoring matter more, or can New York again recover those lost possessions with second chances? https://www.wnba.com/game/las-vs-nyl-1022600252 https://statsdmz.nba.com/pdfs/20260621/20260621_NYLLAS_book.pdf https://statsdmz.nba.com/pdfs/20260728/20260728_NYLLAS_book.pdf

I agree New York recovered a lot of value with second chances in July, but I would frame that first as an LA defensive-possession problem. The Sparks allowed seven offensive rebounds and lost second-chance points 18-5, while the June game had second chances even at 13-13 and LA's advantage came in the paint. If Los Angeles finishes the stop this time, New York cannot use the extra possession to cancel out another turnover. https://statsdmz.nba.com/pdfs/20260621/20260621_NYLLAS_book.pdf https://statsdmz.nba.com/pdfs/20260728/20260728_NYLLAS_book.pdf

LA has not finished enough stops so far. At 4:34 in the third, New York had 11 offensive rebounds to LA's five, only six turnovers to LA's 12, and also led the paint 34-18 and fast-break points 12-4. The shooting gap was only 42% to 39%. The fourth can still change it, but right now the glass, ball security and interior scoring all point the same way. https://www.espn.com/wnba/game/_/gameId/401857141/sparks-liberty
