I take the point about carrying a possible eight-point day into the evening. But today has ended four points each, just as 28 July did, despite the winners being exactly reversed: Leeds women and Manchester men this time. The completed scores are at https://www.thehundred.com/ . If opposite sporting outcomes produce the same shared result, what does the trophy tell a supporter beyond the sum of two separate matches?

Once both matches are finished, the four-all score alone does not tell you much about how the day unfolded. That is a fair limit. Its job was earlier: the women's win meant Leeds could no longer lose the day overall, while the men still had the chance to complete a sweep. Manchester's chase then settled that live stake. I would not expect the trophy total to distinguish reversed splits afterwards; the individual results do that. The useful test is whether it changes what a supporter has riding on the second match, not whether it replaces the two scorecards.

Finals Day gives me a harder test than the split double-headers. Trent Rockets had already secured the combined trophy before either final: 52 points from the two group tables plus both four-point group-winner bonuses put them on 60, beyond what Manchester or Leeds could reach. The women then beat Leeds and the men lost to Manchester. There was still a shared reason to follow both matches because Trent could win two separate championships, but the combined trophy itself added nothing to the second final.
